How do lip fillers work?

We use a Juvéderm® filler which contains a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is a substance found naturally in your body. HA attracts and binds water in the skin to provide gentle, natural looking volume, making it perfect for shaping the delicate lip area. AS HA is a naturally occurring substances, it makes our lip filler treatment incredibly safe in comparison to older filler techniques. Many older lip fillers were collagen or silicone based, which led to a range of problems.

During a lip filler procedure at Vogue Visage Aesthetics a small amount of Juvederm® filler is injected around the lip border or lip body depending on what you wish to achieve. Once injected, the filler gets to work, gently shaping or plumping your lips to achieve your desired look. Hyaluronic Acid lip fillers are temporary, meaning that they will last for six to nine months before your body breaks the filler down.

Prior to treatment your practitioner will carefully examine your lip area and discuss your desired outcome. The treatment itself starts with the lip area being cleansed and numbed using a local anaesthetic. The filler is then injected into the lip area. Your specialist will then massage the product to create a smooth, natural-looking result.

What results can I expect from lip filler injections?

The results of this treatment are evident immediately, and will continue to develop over the seven to 14 days following your treatment. The lips can become a little swollen for 24 – 48 hours following a lip enhancement treatment, so we suggest you avoid planning social events during that time. This is completely normal and will subside over a couple of days. Our lip fillers are all temporary Hyaluronic Acid fillers which typically last for up to 12 months. As your practitioner will explain during your consultation this can vary between individuals.

Dermal fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

What to do after lip fillers?

After your treatment, we recommend that you do not consume alcohol for 24 hours as this reduces the risk of swelling and bruising. We also advise that you use mineral make-up to reduce the risk of infection, avoid hot drinks for a few hours after treatment, and keep your lips hydrated using recommended products such as DermaQuest’s 3D Lip Complex or Antioxidant Lip Repair. These help your lips heal, whilst staying moisturised and hydrated.
